La bise means “kiss” in French. The gesture of kissing ones friends or acquaintances on alternate cheeks when meeting or separating is called Faire La Bise (literally, make the kiss).
Generally, when you Faire La Bise you do not actually kiss the other persons cheek, you touch cheeks lightly and kiss the air, and it’s normally done very quickly. This common from of greeting can be a delightful way to exchange hello and goodbye.
